Fighting The Good Fight

God Bless Rosie O’Donnell. I must say, I have been loving the drama coming out of ‘The View’ lately. Got to love Rosie, who has basically commandeered that program and started using it as her own personal forum to fight for Gay & Lesbian Rights. And all I can say is, you go girl! Thank God someone is doing it! And I actually feel like she has something to say, unlike Elizabeth and Meredith and Joy, whose ‘Hot Topics’ used to put me to sleep. I don’t care about my make-up or Meredith’s ‘guilt trip’ or her son Ben’s movie reviews. I want to hear about things that matter! Whether Rosie is calling Star Jones out for lying to the public about her “Pilates” diet, pontificating on the war in Iraq or on right-wing Christianism, you absolutely have to admire her chutzpah! And the whole Kelly Rippa debacle? Hilarious! That Kelly Rippa had it coming. She has been squawking unchecked for far too many years. You really do have to admire someone who stands up and speaks out. I like that what she has to say is not always popular, nor mainstream. I’ve been seeing a lot of interviews with people on the street saying things such as ‘I like Rosie O’Donnell, but….I think she’s gone too far.’ Basically, people liked Rosie back in the day when she was closeted and NEVER BREATHED A WORD about her lesbianism. Kind of like Ellen is doing these days. People liked Rosie more when she wasn’t rocking the boat. Well, not me. I like Rosie the shit-disturber. I like Rosie the scrapper. I like Rosie the political commentator. I find it very inspiring. I think she has filled a gap which has needed to be filled since ‘Politically Incorrect’ went off the air. Maybe I’m giving her a little too much credit. It’s true that she’s really servicing her own agenda and muscling her way onto the program, but that show needed it! That show was on a downward spiral to mediocrity and middle-aged SAHM blandness. If it was a crayon, that show used to be colourless! So thank God that Rosie has come in there and fired things up! And at least she’s got something of worth and value to say and isn’t apologizing for it! A breath of fresh air, in my eyes! It’s people like her that are making middle America wake up and realize that it’s time to move out of a Republican mindset, get out of the war and start according the same rights to EVERYONE, and not just the middle-aged, upper class, redneck males! And since our politicians aren’t doing it, then it seems as if it has been left up to our entertainers.
