Would You Get Naked for Art?

I’m not sure if I can write a very long post about this, and there’s still not much to say yet, but I am thinking about participating in the Human Body Project.

Basically, it is a brave, brave soul named Tasha Diamant who stands naked in a room. In her own words, 'the Human Body Project is about understanding vulnerability by sharing an experience of vulnerability.' People are invited to come and look, be, and observe. There are self-expression stations where they can make art, write or speak into a microphone.

So, I am thinking of doing it.

I have been thinking about it for the last six months or so, and if I were to be truly honest, it has probably been on my mind in the two years since I saw Tasha’s show...

So, encouraged by a post from a friend who is drawing herself naked, I emailed the artist last week.

We are in discussions.

I myself am someone who has always battled body issues and think there is something very noble, very cathartic and very bold in pushing boundaries to this extreme. I'm also really sick of being what I perceive to be a slave to my body and my body image, and would like to be freed from those shackles. I see it as a bit of a final frontier for me, in terms of accepting my whole self.

I am curious and intrigued by the project and inspired...and would like to be involved in some way. I have given it a great deal of thought, and I’m still not sure if it’s something I’ll actually go through with. But I do know that contacting her was the first step.

She is going to be at the Edmonton Fringe in August. That’s like, 10 days of nudity.
