Movies!

Well, after a few days of ranting and propagating negative energy, thought I’d go for something a little more positive today:

A Good Woman: Scarlett Johansen, Tom Wilkinson and Helen Hunt star in this delightful film about trust, duty, innocence and the importance of communication. Helen Hunt is not my favourite actress by far, but she’s really quite good in this. And Scarlett Johansen just can’t go wrong in my eyes! Set in Italy in the 30s, the costumes are fabulous and the setting beautiful and sleepy and completely innocuous. It is a really easy film to watch, meaning that there is no violence and mass murder, unlike SOME of the films I’ve been watching lately (see below.)

Match Point: This Woody Allen flick was a surprise! His films are usually hit and miss with me and I admit that I don’t always get the satire or appreciate the humour in his work. His films are oft times a little too eccentric for my liking, but this! This film is superb! And getting to stare into Christopher Rhys-Meyer’s eyes all film is such a bonus! Scarlett Johansen also stars. A stupendous script pulls you right in and keeps you watching the whole way through. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Lucky Number Slevin: Violent and shocking, but well acted and humourous and fantastic and exactly what a movie should be! Entertaining and unpredictable! And you know, I’m a sucker for that Morgan Freeman! He could narrate a phone book and I'd listen.

The Departed: This film deserves some Oscar nods. Leonardo Dicaprio, in my opinion, is even better in this film than he was in ‘the Aviator.’ At 3 hours long, I think it is a testament to its fortitude to say that the time flew right by. I got completely sucked into the characters' lives and I don’t think I breathed the entire time. It was so intense and I was so pulled into the plot that there was no time for munchies or pee breaks or MOVING of any kind. And it’s a smart film. You have to pay attention to try and keep up with what’s going on. I really appreciate that as a movie-goer. And God Help Martin Scorsese: the poor man deserves an Oscar for this, not because it is his best film ever, but to compensate for all the other times he has been passed over. And since 3-6 Mafia now has an Oscar…

Note* If you don’t like Martin Scorsese or bloody, violent films, then this is not for you. I don’t necessarily appreciate that much violence, but in this case, it is not gratuitous: it has a purpose in the context of the film. And Mark Walberg is fan-fucking tastic! Hilarious! As was Alec Baldwin and Matt Damon! And with an all star-cast who actually and easily outshone Jack Nicholson, this is a film worth seeing! Go! This is most definitely NOT a renter!

I have seen them, but they are quite high in fat, compared to the all-fruit pops or the fudge pops. Basically, the fudge pops are so low in calories & fat because they are made with Skim Milk and Splenda. You may get cancer, but you at least you'll be thinner when you die...
