Youth, Day, Old Age and Night

I pulled out a copy of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass today and treated myself to a little beauty. A dear friend gifted me this book in 2000, and I think I've only just now grown into it. She gave it to me before I was ready.

So today on my 35th birthday, for her, for me, with my thanks:

YOUTH, DAY, OLD AGE AND NIGHT

Youth, large, lusty, loving--youth full of grace, force, fascination,
Do you know that Old Age may come after you with equal grace, force, fascination?

Day full-blown and splendid--day of the immense sun, action, ambition, laughter,
The Night follows close with millions of suns, and sleep and restoring darkness.

~Walt Whitman, 1881

Wonderful! Thank you, and I am so glad. Walt has been my soul food these many years.

Happy 35th! I am wishing you "equal grace, force, fascination" or perhaps even greater in the years to come. :)
